Welcome Ellen Lymer

Back in November, go2HR announced that Ellen Lymer was appointed the Regional Industry Health and Safety Specialist for Vancouver Island. With a wealth of experience in occupational health and safety, Ellen has worked for over 20 years in this field in several different industries in BC and Alberta. She began her career as a field safety coordinator for heavy construction, manufacturing, and pulp and paper companies across BC before working the Township of Langley and the City of Edmonton as a corporate safety advisor. After that, Ellen took the role of a Field Manager working with BC Hydro and spent 10 years working in their corporate safety and their generation operations departments.

Ellen currently holds two designations as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) as well as a Project Management Professional (PMP). She has also completed educational programs in human resources and adult education. Ellen’s expert knowledge of workplace safety, project management skills, and her capacity building approach will be a great asset for the company.

Ellen has been a long-time resident of Vancouver Island and currently works out of Campbell River. In her spare time Ellen enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

With travel and hospitality industries facing challenging times, it will take a safety veteran like Ellen to help usher in a new norm of COVID-19 precautions. Ellen is hopeful with the progress already underway and recognizes the gaps in the industry’s current processes. “For the most part, tourism employers have effective COVID plans in place, but they may not be updated often enough to reflect the ongoing changes in provincial health orders. Basically, every time the health orders get changed, employers should revisit their plans to ensure they are still compliant,” explains Ellen.

Ellen looks forward to developing working relationships with her new industry partners across Vancouver Island. “As the newest member of go2HR, I look forward to supporting the tourism industry on Vancouver Island.” Good luck in your new role Ellen!
