BC Employers’ Advisers Office (EAO)
The Employers’ Advisers Office (EAO) is a branch of the Ministry of Labour. Independent of WorkSafeBC, the EAO is a resource for employers, providing complimentary advice, assistance and representation to employers, potential employers and employer associations concerning workers’ compensation issues. The EAO also provides free educational seminars on a variety of topics: occupational health and safety program requirements, claims management, Joint H&S Committees, due diligence, assessments and others. You can call the EAO’s toll free duty line and speak with an adviser from Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm PST @ 1-800-925-2233.
Funded by the BC Workers’ Compensation Board, the BCFED Health & Safety Centre has evolved into a Centre of Excellence for Occupational Health and Safety training in British Columbia, and the largest provider of health and safety training in the province. The BCFED Health & Safety Centre was established to train worker and employer representatives of Joint Health & Safety Committees so they could act with confidence and competence on their considerable legal rights and responsibilities as provided by occupational health and safety law. Its one-day courses qualify for the eight-hour annual education leave that JOHSC members are entitled to as per Section 135 of the Workers Compensation Act. In its efforts to remove traditional barriers to Health and Safety education, BCFED has also developed programs for young workers, immigrant workers (ESL) and migrant workers.
BCIT’s Occupational Health and Safety Certificate & Diploma programs are the most comprehensive and recognized in Canada. The Certificate program is for people with five or more years of work experience looking to move into a health and safety role in their existing workplace or industry. The Diploma program is the most comprehensive training of its kind in Canada. Students learn the skills they need to start a great career in health and safety, in any industry and workplace.
The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) sets the standard for the certification of occupational health and safety professionals in Canada to create the healthiest and safest workplaces in the world. Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
CCOHS provides free or nominal-cost training courses, special programs, workshops, presentations, webinars and podcasts that help organizations raise awareness, assess risks, implement prevention programs and improve the health, safety and well-being of workers.
Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE)
The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering’s training and certification seminars provide occupational health and safety professionals with the knowledge to keep one step ahead and be a strategic player in today’s workforce. An HSA and COR CP is an organization that, through contractual agreement with WorkSafeBC, helps guide employers in a specific industry prevent and effectively manage injuries, as we as support them in earning a COR certification. These organizations are recognized by WorkSafeBC as having in-depth industry knowledge to promote and develop workplace health and safety, and have their own events and education and training sessions.
WorkSafeBC
WorkSafeBC is dedicated to promoting workplace health and safety for the workers and employers of British Columbia. Its Supervising for Safety (SFS) training is a free, interactive online course that is customized for supervisors. The SFS course aims to assist supervisors in better understanding their OHS roles and responsibilities, meeting workplace safety obligations, enhancing their “toolbox” to improve their safety practices, and becoming a more effective supervisor. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a Supervising for Safety Certificate of Completion.
