Mental Health Resources – Tourism and Hospitality

As the BC tourism and hospitality industry continues to work towards recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, go2HR is proud to have partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association – BC Division (CMHA BC) to provide a range of industry-specific mental health supports, resources and training for front line employees, supervisors, managers and senior leaders.
Workplace Learning Coaches- Psychological Health and Safety
(aka your mental health concierges)
Funded by a grant from the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions through this partnership, our go2HR Workplace Learning Coaches – Psychological Health and Safety:
- Are knowledgeable, experienced industry professionals with a wealth of lived experiences who have been rigorously trained to support employees and employers across BC
- Are available at no cost
- Offer personalized, one-on-one meetings to provide mental health guidance and resources
- Are not counsellors, however can help direct individuals and organizations to appropriate resources
- Offer mental health presentations for industry-related associations and organizations
- Can help address a range of mental health concerns and challenges in the workplace, including but not limited to stress, burnout, substance use, anxiety, depression, disordered eating
- Work directly with employers to establish a foundation of psychological safety in the workplace, described by author William A. Kahn as “being able to show and employ one’s self without fear of negative consequences of self-image, status or career.”
Training
Workplace CARE (Compassionate & Respectful Employee/er) Certificate – Tourism & Hospitality
- FREE, industry-focused mental health training
- 3 online, self-paced courses
- Practical information and resources, monitored/interactive online forums and direct access to a Workplace Learning Coach
CARE Level 1: Foundational Skills
Ideal for: Employees at all levels
Format: CARE Level 1 features an online, self-paced course Primary Concerns, by Not 9 to 5
Duration: 3 hours
Topics:
- Mental health and how it can fluctuate over time
- Mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, disordered eating and substance use
Learn how to:
- Reduce stigma and start positive conversations about mental health
- Recognize and address chronic stress
CARE Level 2: Enhanced Skills
Ideal for: Leaders (supervisors, managers, business owners, HR & OHS professionals)
Prerequisite: CARE Level 1
Format: Online, self-paced
Duration: 3-5 hours
Topics:
- The roles of helpers, communication and trust within psychologically safe and healthy workplaces
- Understanding implicit culture
- Setting healthy boundaries
Learn how to:
- Identify your role in promoting a psychologically safe and healthy workplace culture
- Notice and support employees who may be struggling
- Understand resources available for your own health, your employees and your loved ones
CARE Level 3: Advanced Skills
Ideal for: Senior Leaders (directors, managers, HR & OHS professionals). Medium-large employers
Format: Online, self-paced course (3-4 )
2 live virtual, classroom sessions (1 ½ hours each). Dates to be announced
Prerequisite: CARE Level 2

- The National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace
Learn how to:
- Identify opportunities to address bias in your workplace
- Draft and implement a plan that identifies priority areas, strengths and first steps toward improving your workplace culture
