April Industry CEO Message
Ahh April! Spring is finally here regardless of what the weather is suggesting around our beautiful province. To me, Spring is a time for renewal, growth, and expansion and we feel it in the air at go2HR. I hope you feel the energy too. We close one fiscal, reflect on the past, and start another with new resources and initiatives on the books. Here are a couple of notable ones I’d like to highlight with you
- go2HR has been leading the Labour Recovery Framework which is a focused, solution-oriented action plan that plots out the path to recovery. I am especially proud of the broad industry participation that developed this recovery framework as consensus, collaboration and commitment.
- Our organization has also launched two very important initiatives that speak to our ongoing commitment to strong workforces and safe workplaces.
- Our new Workplace Learning Coaches – Psychological Health and Safety have developed additional resources for industry in conjunction with our ongoing partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, BC Division. Have you checked out the Hub yet?
- Safer Spaces our commitment to raise awareness about and help prevent sexual harassment in BC’s tourism and hospitality industry. We just launched an employer/supervisor focused online training program as well as online education resources. We know that leaders are fundamental to this initiative as they establish the safety culture of the workplace and set the tone. As an employer, we invite you to take this free course and take the steps to start creating Safer Spaces in your own workplaces. And, as an industry, I ask that you help us to amplify this opportunity amongst your network. We’ve created a toolkit for exactly that purpose! And if you are interested in what it takes to create a training course, be sure to follow our blog series that details the behind the scenes of the creation of Safer Spaces.
- We’re bringing 4 Regional HR consultants, that will create a network of HR advice that speaks to Pillar 4 in our Labour Recovery Framework Raise the HR Bar initiative. These consultants will work closely with the regional DMO network across the province and focus on HR advisory services, regional HR initiatives, engagement and communication with key partners. They will be the go2 source for HR trends, best practices and policy. We are grateful for the support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts. Culture and Sport for their ongoing support for this important recovery program.
- And, if the work we’re doing is meaningful to you, I’d ask that you’d consider joining our board, we’re seeking nominations for three director positions. You can read more about this in the newsletter below
And to close, April 28th marks the National Day of Mourning, an annual event to commemorate workers who have suffered injury, illness or lost their lives on the job Within BC’s tourism and hospitality industry, two individuals lost their lives in work-related incidents/exposures during 2021.We’ll be participating in a local ceremony to pay tribute to them.
Stay Safe,
Krista
